Carolyn Ann Steward grew up in an artistic family. Her father, Viniglia Bartolini, was an Italian immigrant, trained as a sculptor in Belgium. Her mother Carmen Dal'berto was also a gifted artist creating watercolor portraits and porcelain painted plates. It was in this ingenious environment that Carolyn was mentored and had her beginnings in what has become a life long creative journey.
She joined the military as an illustrator yet worked long nights producing fine art which she naturally aspired to. After her military commitment she pursued her degree in the fine arts at Goddard College.
In the early 1990's Carolyn became ill and her career was challenged. She was suffering with the debilitation of heavy metal poisoning and asthma caused by the use of powdered pigments and chalks. With a continued devotion to her art she worked from her imagination. This proved to be a cornerstone of change, allowing her personality to emerge and elevate her art work with new enthusiasm. Carolyn truly believes the words of Nicolas Berdyaev: "In every artistic activity a new world is created, the cosmos, a world enlightened and free". |
