Myron Abbott

"Hi! I'm Myron Abbott, an artist and native of southern Utah. I've livedhere all of my 40+ years and I guess I've been an artist for that long aswell. I've enjoyed a variety of mediums, woodcarving, sculpting, andseveral elaborate and intricate multi-media dioramas. The only thing I enjoy more than my art is the time I spend out in the mountains and deserts of my native stomping' ground."

"I call the small town of Kanab my home which is also the home of a rock known locally as "Kanab Goldenstone". A very unique and beautiful sandstone found only in this area. When cut precisely, this 200+ million old sediment from an iron oxide fed spring, yields a truly beautiful and often times very convincing "scene". The "scenery" constantly changes throughout the rock and no two "canvas'" are the same. --Kool huh?"

"The pictures of these rocks so remind me of so many places I've been in the 4 corners area southern Utah, and the Arizona strip. I couldn't resist the urge to complete the scene. Using oils I portray my "backyard". My favorite topics are the wild animals I grew up around, but I have painted just about anything you can think of from cowboys to rock climbers. Anasazi to African wildlife and much more.. My art form is not new, man has been painting critters on stone since he lived in caves. I hope you will enjoy my brand of cave painting as much as I enjoy painting it!!"
