Born in 1967 to Victor and Encarnacion Gutierrez, at an Air Force
Base in Landstuhl, Germany. His career began with drafting,
where he worked only with black lead and colored pencil. He
studied Architecture at the National Education Center in Glendale,
Arizona.
Johnny’s passion for painting was uncovered in 1991. He
experimented with watercolors, but found that “oils felt so great under my brush”. Oil painting opened up a new opportunity to express himself at a much deeper level. He loves “deep, bold, bright colors” and works best with the female figure.
Art is an expression of who he is and what he is feeling. A response to a heightened emotional awareness which inspires his work. He "loves the way a painting or any work of art is a moment in time, an emotion, an experience, a fear, a wish....that will live on".
Influenced by the Old Masters such as Degas, Picasso, Da Vinci, Dali and
Michelangelo, Gutierrez feels “lucky to be an artist”.
