Jean Phillips

I have lived and worked in the state of North Carolina for most of my life. I developed an intense love of drawing as a child, but did not begin taking art classes until I was enrolled as a nursing student at UNC-Chapel Hill in the late 1970's. When I retired from nursing in 1995, I began to study art at UNC-Greensboro. I began working in a variety of mediums while in school, but my first love is painting in oils. I have worked as a volunteer art instructor at the local cultural center, where I taught small children about the joy of self-expression though art. I am a member of the local artists' league, which I find is an excellent venue for exhibiting my art work.

My art focus at present involves three areas: writing and illustrating children's book, painting landscapes and flowers, and making pottery. I am daily inspired by the beauty of nature and seek to capture these feelings through the use of color and texture in my art work. I look forward to growing and maturing as an artist as I paint, draw or sculpt on a daily basis.
