Philosophy: Creating is my passion. I have studied with some wonderful
teachers but I am primarily self-taught. I create intuitively.
As I work, each piece emerges as its own entity. My hope is that
the project I've begun is never finished and that the creative
process continues with each person who views the work. I hope
they make it their own.
Influences on my work: I have lived in many states in the U.S.,
as well as five foreign countries. The eight years that I lived
in Asia (four in Tokyo and four in Singapore) profoundly influenced
me. Also having lived and traveled within the U.S. from east to
west and north to south; the people, energies, textures and flavors
of my home country are very much a part of who I am and therefore
my work. Deep love and appreciation for creativity and art in every
form: music, dance, literature,
film... also shape my art. With influences I must make special
mention of one teacher, a British woman living in Singapore. She
said, "I would never attempt to teach you your art. I can't
do that but I can teach you what the materials will do." She always
encouraged creativity and experimentation. A last influence and
so important,
is my sense of spirituality and the seeking, sharing that is my
life.
Art Affiliations: I belong to the Fine Arts League of Cary and
sometimes show my work in their exhibits. I have contributed cibachrome
prints to be auctioned for charity. Occasionally I take classes
to learn more about a particular medium.
Facts about me: My university degree is a BS, heavy in the sciences.
I have done graduate work at four colleges; most of my credits
are from Teacher's College Columbia University in Manhattan, NY.
Prior to living in North Carolina, I had not lived anywhere longer
than six years. It is exciting to have lived here 6 and a half
years! |
