Richard Moenaert

I became an artist because I enjoy the freedom of expression you feel while creating something. It is an expression of not only your inner feelings, but also your environment. When I begin painting I have an idea of what I am trying to accomplish. I turn the CD player on and let the music move the brush. I believe that ART, whether it be an oil painting, a sculpture, a watercolor, or an exquisite landscaped garden, should move the person that is viewing it. The piece should make you feel something - anger, pleasure, - anything other than apathy. The greatest reason that I paint is that when I am creating a painting I am absorbed in the piece. I walk the lanes, or the fields, or play in the snow. I try to put myself into that place and capture not only the scene, but the feeling of the time.

There are a few artists that I have admired and they probably influenced me more than I really know. My favorite artists are all impressionists, beginning with Monet. The more modern of the impressionists would include Alex Perez, Claude Cambour, Jean Claude Pico, and lately Anatole Krasnyanski. Mr Krasnyanski mostly because of his use of color and the distinct sharp lines in his more recent works.

One artist friend after looking at my work stated, "It brings an emotionally passionate and at the same time a serene quality to me." A friend who as one of my works said that she and her family were pleased with the beautiful landscape with its colors was very professional.
