| The
paintings of Bob Currie are simple, dramatic, and bold.
Bob's
strong composition in his paintings attracts the viewer with
his unique interpretation of his subjects. The treatment and
application of color and lighting adds to the richness and vitality
of his paintings. Bob's diverse range of subjects, colors and
shapes are created into mystical images and environments. Each
painting has a story, each painting has an individuality.
Bob's
belief is, "Art must have substance to have life and life
will invite the viewer back to a painting to discover new areas
of
interest. If the viewer absorbs everything in a first viewing,
then a painting is not successful." Bob avoids the common
pitfall of first being attracted by the technique of paint and
texture
versus the substance of the art.
Bob's
paintings are not a mirror of reality, but rather an interpretation
of a spirit or the mood of the subject. He mixes the intellectual,
emotional and sensitivity into his paintings to create works
of distinction and style.
After
attending two years of college, Bob started his education over
and enrolled at Art Center College in Los Angeles. He majored
in advertising and spent 30 years working for an agency on national
accounts. He won numerous awards and enjoyed distinctive success
for many clients.
While
his education exposed him to art classes, Bob primarily is a
self-taught painter. He began painting interpretive landscapes
and won first place in a New York competition. Because of personal
and business demands, he had limited opportunities to paint for
several years. In restarting his career in painting, Bob focused
on figurative work to express his creative energies. With each
painting, Bob demands new challenges of himself to further his
talent and thinking. His diverse range of subjects allows him
to explore new expressions of color, images, and feelings.
Bob
has exhibited in Illinois and Missouri. His paintings have been
displayed as one-man exhibits, as well as in group shows.
Bob
lives in St. Jacob, Illinois with his delightful wife Judy, three
St. Bernards, and a Schnauzer named Rambo. |
