Alexander "Sasha" Merman was born in Moscow, Russia on
October 24, 1972. Sasha grew up in a communist regime until 1985
when he immigrated to Los Angeles with his mother. After completing
school in the Los Angeles area, Sasha joined the United States Navy
in 1992. Towards the end of his enlistment Sasha began working on
a portfolio with a goal of pursuing an education in visual arts.
In 1998 he received a Bachelor of Arts in Illustration from Otis
College of Art & Design. Sasha Merman's unorthodox artistic
style combines Dali's bizarre surrealism, M.C. Escher's three-dimensional
illusions and Giger's eerie erotic imagery with the modern influences
of urban Los Angeles culture. The divulgement of his artistic ideas
is aided by the use of unconventional surfaces to create an inimitable
expression of the artist's stream of consciousness.
