David Carlen

I have been a scenic artist for many years while pursuing personal creative interests. My clients include MGM, Universal, Warner Brothers, 20th Century, NBC, ABC, CBS, KCET, as well as independents. One of the more interesting projects was a dozen or so paintings for the Marlon Brando set. The canvasses were based on French, Dutch, German and American modern works. I was asked to make them believable but not so accurate as to be “suable”.

Over the years I have taken Life Drawing at the Art Center in Pasadena, classes at the many local community colleges, and workshops.

The Hollywood Studio Gallery bought many of my canvasses which are used on stage and motion picture sets. From time to time, to my surprise, one of my works will appear on a tv show I happen to be watching. And I have sold paintings to the Pacific Design Center on Melrose and to private collectors.
