Jesus Trujillo

Art is a universal language. My art is simple, an expression of a passion. I believe that everyone should be able to enjoy art, thus, the messages in my paintings are true, clear, and direct. The main purpose of my art is to delight my audience. I love to paint what I see around me, and sometimes, what I think I see.

The youngest of ten brothers and sisters, I spent the first part of my childhood in Guadalajara, Mexico. I moved with my family to the United States when I was about ten years old. We were out to conquer the "American Dream" and ended up in Tucson, Arizona. In high school I realized that something had come over me. I read an endless number of art books and finally fell under the spell of art.

I took art classes at school, and French Impressionist Pierre Bittar soon became one of my first inspirations. I studied his techniques, as well as many different artists' work. Monet, Goya, Michelangelo, and Delacroix were just a few artists that I studied. Yet, I realized that it was time for my own work.

I attended an Institute of Theology for three years, and most of what I learned came from there. I then changed paths and considered the Priesthood, but soon returned to Tucson where I discovered my true calling was in my art. It takes more than talent to become an artist and I am continuously driven by the notion that art is not a feeling, but an attitude, moved by pure action.
